北京南门空间将于十月二十八日，晚上八点，举办一个古巴以及巴西民间音乐的晚上。来自美国旧金山的吉米•比亚拉有着丰富的表演经验，有过多次传统的、当代的以及即兴音乐及舞蹈演出，并获得极大好评。 当晚除了他的独奏还有桑巴亚•北京打击乐队激情的桑巴节奏，带给你集体音乐动人的力量。
艺术家简介：吉米•比亚拉／打击乐 舞蹈 声乐
自从1993年，打击乐艺术家吉米•比亚拉就与多方位艺术家进行合作。

他曾经在Santa Clara 大学教授打击乐并作为北加周日本文化社中心的唐人街文化社区服务中心的驻地艺术家。现在吉米在台湾的Dream Community任教授。吉米毕业于古巴 Matanzas 大学的打击乐及舞蹈专业。在巴 西，他向Rio de Janeiro的 Mangueria桑巴舞学校同 Jorge Alabe 和Mestre Aunto大师学习；同时也向Salvador, Bahia的 Ile-Aye Afoxe舞蹈团体大师 Mester Marivaldo学习。
吉米获得1998年度 Downbeat杂志颁发的爵士录音与表演大奖。他是Search Five项目以及 SambAsia桑巴舞学校的艺术总监。

桑巴亚•北京/打击乐队
2005大山子艺术节中，一群充满好奇的人参加了吉米的工作坊。在五天之内他们学会了基本的桑巴节奏，并在大山子艺术区里打鼓巡游，带动了旁观的人高兴的手舞足动。从此，桑巴亚•北京成立了，现在欢迎所有对桑巴节奏有兴趣的人来加入。

On October 28, Beijing's South Gate Theatre in the 798 Art District
will host international artist Jimmy Biala and samba group SambAsia Beijing in an evening of percussion music from Cuba and Brazil. Hailing from San Francisco, California, USA, Jimmy has performed traditional, contemporary and improvisational music and dance to critical acclaim. Biala will present traditional solo drum pieces, followed by SambAsia Beijing’s group performance of Bahia-style samba rythms. Come share in the energy of communal music-making.

Artist Biography

Jimmy BIALA / Percussion, Dance, Voice
Percussionist Jimmy Biala has collaborated with multi-disciplinary artists  
since 1993.   After a long residency at Santa Clara University's School of Performing Arts, the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California and the
San Francisco Chinatown Beacon Center，Jimmy now teaches Cuban and Brazilian percussion at the Dream Community in Taiwan. He is a graduate of Percussion and
Dance at the University of Matanzas in Matanzas, Cuba. He has also studied
in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with Jorge Alabe and Mestre Aunto from the
Mangueria samba school and in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil with Mester Marivaldo
of the Ile-Aye Afoxe group. Jimmy is the recipient of a 1998 Downbeat
Magazine Jazz Recording and Performance award. He is the artistic director
of the Search Five projects and the SambAsia samba school of San Francisco and Beijing.

SambAsia Beijing/ Group Percussion, Voice
During the Dashanzi International Arts Festival 2005, an eclectic collection of curious and energetic people, including students, white-collar professionals and professional drummers, gathered at South Gate Space to learn the Brazilian samba drumming of Salvador Bahia with percussionist Jimmy Biala. This workshop gave everyone an equal opportunity to learn a truly peoples' music, where everyone plays an integral part the sum of which equals an infectious musical tradition. With the five-day workshop, the group learned the basic rhythm and dance of Bahia-style samba and paraded through the Dashanzi Art District gathering hundreds of spectators in tow, each of them dancing, singing, and shouting with musical joy. Since this first experience, SambAsia Beijing, Escuela de Samba en Beijing, was born, and aims to be a permanent fixture in Beijing's art scene as a performance ensemble that welcomes everyone and anyone, promoting community awareness through a shared musical experience.
